Dmitry Morozov, also known as ::vtol::,  is a new media artist from Moscow. Dmitry hacks electronic components from devices like scanners and credit card machines and creates sound performances. Dmitry’s work primarily revolves around explorations of sound, however, he uses abstract, minimalist visuals to accompany the sound performances. He may be best known for this tattoo, for which he’s created a device that reads the pattern and plays sound patterns accordingly.

While Dimitry was recently featured by Wired magazine, you couldn’t tell from his attitude. He’s incredibly humble. He shared that in Russia, there’s not much respect for the kind of art he makes. When introducing each of his pieces, it was interesting that he prefaced with things like “this project is okay, but it’s not that impressive.” It was cool to hear an artist who made their work sound so easy and nonchalant.
